5 years after the first arrival of the Rolex Giraglia in Monaco (2014), on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Club House, the Yacht Club of Monaco will again host the arrival of the regatta “Queen of the Mediterranean”. Organized by the Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez, the Yacht Club Sanremo and the Yacht Club de Monaco, the 67th edition of the Rolex Giraglia off shore race will kick off on 12st June in the Gulf of Saint Tropez and will take the finish in the water of the
Principality of Monaco.

The start of the 2019 Rolex Giraglia offshore race was one of the most impressive in recent memory. Sailing under clear blue skies and a favourable, building breeze the 243-strong international fleet offered a sublime spectacle. A testing and tactical 241-nautical race lies ahead including the seminal rounding of the Giraglia rock, the virtual halfway point. For only the second time in its history, the race will finish off the Yacht Club de Monaco in Monte-Carlo. The leading contenders to be first over the line include Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’s Wallycento Magic Carpet Cubed, a past line honours and overall winner of the event, and George David’s all-conquering 88-ft maxi Rambler. They both have the current race record of 14 hours, 56 minutes in their sights. Partnered by Rolex since 1998, the event is organised by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez.

Józsa Márton vezetésével a hatvanlábas Mini Maxi, a Wild Joe több alkalommal is részt vett már a legendás mediterrán offshore versenyen. Tegnap Saint-Tropez kikötője előtt 243 hajó rajtolt el az idei futamon, amelynek a pályája ismét változott. Az elmúlt öt évben a cél Genovánál volt, de idén Monte Carlóban lesz a befutó.
A rajt után a mezőny nyugatra Hyeres felé halad, majd egy zátony kerülése után következik a – jó esetben – hosszú rohanás a Korzika északi csücskénél lévő Giraglia-szikla felé. Itt fordul a mezőny vissza a monte carlói befutó felé. (forrás)
